“Of course I saved you,” she said. “I couldn’t do without you.” And because she was happy and flushed with magic, Holly leaned down and kissed Artemis, magic sparking around the contact like tiny fireworks.
And then the fandom died because there were sweet peppermint kisses and all was right in the world.
…but there’s something else I’d like to point out.
It tends to be overshadowed by the kiss itself, but remember what Holly said right beforehand — “I couldn’t do without you.” I know that her emotional spectrum was stilted by the… wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff, but all the same, keep in mind whom we’re speaking about here. This is Holly Short, who relies on no one, who worked her ass off to advance in a misogynistic, male-dominated field (and damn well succeeded). Holly Short, whose badassery is known throughout, whose ability to take care of herself and get things done is second to none.
Could she live without Artemis? Of course. But the important thing is to realize that she went so far as to say that, even as a figure of speech. Living the life she has (particularly in regards to her career), I’d imagine saying such things lightly is a rare thing for her. Emotional vulnerability or not, that’s sort of a big deal.
